Personal Profile

Hey guys, my name is Matt Gross, I’m a freshman here at Ithaca College and I’m majoring in journalism. So a little about my personal background; I was born and raised in West Palm Beach, FL, yes, I did give up 75-degree weather, clear skies, and the beach to come here, but so far I am absolutely loving my decision. A little bit about my family, I come from a family of four including one sibling, an older sister who is on her way to graduating from college at the end of this semester.

So now that I’ve given you some background information, I’d like to toss out a couple words out that I think best describe who I am. The first word I would use to describe myself is diligent. The dictionary definition of this word is having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties. Now when I read that definition to myself, I immediately processed it as something else. I translated it to one thing: having pride in what you do. When a task is assigned or even when I set goals for myself, no matter how big or small that task is, I always take pride in my work as I know it’s a direct reflection of who I am. Another word I would use to describe myself is modest. I chose this word because it really resonated with me personally. I’m never the type of person to gloat or trash talk, in fact I am the complete opposite. I’m the type of person to just go about their business, do what needs to be done, and move on to the next thing. Nice and easy.

Now that I’ve described myself through those two words, let me try and paint a better picture of myself by telling you what it is I like to do.

Some hobbies and interests of mine, aside from being one of the biggest fans of the show “The Office”, include playing football here at Ithaca College, talking my head off about what’s going on in the sports world, and simply just being active, whether that be exercising or maybe just hanging out with friends downtown.

As a result of these being my interests, it’s actually a perfect segue to introducing my goals and dreams. For me, there’s truly nothing else in this world I love more than sports, they really have a special place in my heart. Consequently, the thought process for me now is taking these aspects of my passion for sports and bringing them along into my dream job of someday being a sports reporter for a large-scale company such as ESPN.
